Chan: Of course. I’m a member. It’s a great way for colleagues and friends to know more about each other.
Susan: Apparently a lot of Koreans feel the same way. ‘Cyworld’ has a subscription base of eleven million people, up from 3.5 at the beginning of the year.
Chan: And I hear that a Japanese site, ‘Minihome’ has copied the idea. The site looks very similar to ‘Cyworld’ and has all the same functions.
Susan: I guess SK Communications is considering legal copyright action against the Japanese company.
Chan: Well, they had plans to take the ‘Cyworld’ site and expand to other Asian markets.
수잔: 찬, 커뮤니티 사이트 싸이월드 알지?
찬: 물론이지, 거기 가입되어 있는걸. 동료나 친구들이 서로에 대해 좀 더 알 수 있어 좋은 곳이지.
수잔: 많은 한국인들도 그렇게 생각하는 거 같은데. 가입자수가 올해 초의 350만 명에서 천백만 명으로 늘었다니.
찬: 그리고 일본의 ‘미니홈’이란 곳에서 아이디어를 모방했다고 들었어. 싸이월드와 아주 비슷해 보이고, 똑 같은 기능을 갖추고 있던데.
수잔: SK텔레콤에서 일본 회사를 상대로 저작권 관련 법적 대응을 하지 않을까 하는데.
찬: 그러게. 싸이월드를 다른 아시아 시장으로까지 확장해갈 계획이었으니 말이야.
