Be patient
사람은 환경의 지배를 받는 동물이 맞나 봅니다. 성격이 정말 느긋하던 Suuny조차 한국의 “빨리빨리” 문화에 아주 쉽게 적응한 듯 합니다.
“이게 정말 나를 너무 짜증나게 해”라고 말할 때
“This drives me nuts.”
Sunny: This drives me nuts! It’s already Monday afternoon. I think I shouldn’t expect anything from them. I guess everything is decided.
Luke: Sunny, it’s only 2:30 in the afternoon. Maybe they are now very busy making decisions and something will come up soon. You shouldn’t be impatient like this.
Sunny: I have been very patient with them so far. They said they would call me in the morning. I guess someone else must have gotten the free tickets to Jeju Island.
Luke: Well, it’s only been 2 days since you applied for the free tickets. Just wait for few more hours. Until then, just stay calm.
Sunny: 아주 날 미치게 만드는군. 벌써 월요일 오후야. 이제 아무 기대를 말아야지. 벌써 다 결정이 났을 거야.
Luke: Sunny, 아직 2시 30분밖에 안됐어. 아마 그 사람들도 결정하느라 바쁠 거고, 곧 무슨 말이 있겠지. 이렇게 조급해하면 안 돼.
Sunny: 지금까지 조급해하지 않았잖아. 오늘 아침까지 전화 준다고 했단 말이야. 내 생각엔 다른 사람이 제주도행 무료 항공권을 탔을 거 같아.
Luke: 응모한 지가 이틀밖에 안 됐는걸. 몇시간 더 기다려 봐. 그때까진 좀 진정하도록 해.
Sunny: Everybody is on the line. They must be calling the lucky ones. I shouldn’t even have hoped for these things. I have wasted all my morning just to know that I am not the lucky one.
Luke: Oh my god, Sunny, now you are turning from impatient to pessimistic. You have to learn to stay cool.
Sunny: 모두들 통화 중이군. 운좋은 사람에게 전화를 걸고 있겠지. 처음부터 기대하지 않는 거였어. 내가 운좋은 사람이 아닌 걸 알려고 오늘 아침 시간을 몽땅 낭비했어.
Luke: 세상에, Sunny, 이제는 성격이 급한 거에서 비관적으로 변하고 있어! 좀 침착하게 있는 법을 배워야겠다.
