How many megapixels do I need?
Mijin: I am thinking of buying a digital camera, but I am not sure yet how many megapixels I need.
Peter: Hmm, a 2-megapixel camera would be fine for snapshots, but if you need to produce A4-size prints, you will need at least a 3-megapixel.
Mijin: But I heard models with that kind of resolution are becoming less common. I don’t think I can live with myself toting an obsolete model.
Peter: Sure. Nowadays, even 6-7 megapixel models are quite affordable I guess. And with those cameras you can get less blurry images when blown up.
미진: 디지털 카메라 하나 사려고 하는데 몇 백만 화소로 사야할 지 모르겠어.
피터: 음. 그냥 보통 사진용으로는 200만 화소가 괜찮아. 그런데 A4 만한 사진을 만들려면 최소한 300만 화소는 돼야지.
미진: 그런데 그 정도 해상도 카메라들은 점점 사라지고 있다고 들었어. 내가 구닥다리 모델 카메라를 가지고 다닐 수야 없지.
피터: 그래. 600∼700백만 화소 카메라도 가격이 그리 비싸지 않은 것 같아. 게다가 화소가 큰 카메라로 찍은 사진은 확대해도 흐릿해지는 게 덜하니깐.
