Peter: What is an OS and how does it affect my computer?
Mijin: The OS stands for Operating System and is the software that runs your computer. It provides the platform for programs to run, hardware to operate and the display that you see when you turn your computer on.
Peter: Should I go out and buy one?
Mijin: Every new computer usually comes with an OS, since your computer can`t run without it.
Peter: So once I have one, I never have to worry about it again?
Mijin: Because new programs and hardware are always being developed, you should update your OS as often as possible.
피터: OS는 뭐고 컴퓨터에서 어떤 역할은 하니?
미진: OS는 운영 체계 (Operating System)의 약자인데, 컴퓨터를 실행시키는 소프트웨어지. OS는 프로그램이 돌아가고 하드웨어가 작동할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공하고 컴퓨터를 켰을 때 우리가 보게 되는 화면상의 모습을 제공하지.
피터: 그럼 나 나가서 하나 구입해야 되는 거야?
미진: 모든 새 컴퓨터는 OS가 딸려 나오지. OS 없이 컴퓨터를 실행할 수 없으니깐.
피터: 그럼 일단 OS가 있으니깐, 그것에 대해서는 이제 다시 걱정할 필요 없겠네?
미진: 새로운 프로그램과 하드웨어 항상 개발이 되니깐 OS도 되도록 자주 업데이트 해줘야지.
