A company in Karachi, Pakistan, is diminishing thieves` success at stealing cars.
The firm, Trakker Pvt Ltd, implants tracking devices, which use the Global Positioning System, into vehicles. The device needs a satellite signal to let the company`s workers know the location of a car. When they get the signal, they can pass the coordinates on to the police, make the car stop, or lock its seat-belts and doors--whatever it takes to stop the thief from succeeding--all by the click of a mouse from the company`s control center.
Trakker was established in 1998, at which time it began supplying its technology mainly to trucking and rental car companies. Private car owners are now demanding the service, but only people who own expensive cars seem able to afford it.
