Susan: A judge in Virginia just sentenced a man to nine years in prison for spamming.
Chan: I guess it’s the first time someone in the US has been handed a jail term for sending junk email.
Susan: Apparently, the man had sent 10 million spam a day, using the America Online service provider.
Chan: The illegal part was not simply sending the bulk mail, but using a false address to do it.
Susan: Not to mention advertising phony products and getting people to pay for them.
Chan: He made about $750,000 a month by ‘selling’ fake products.
